Hero's Chiropody Sponge

Calluses are a PITA. I've always had them from competitive tennis back in my younger years and most recently during weight lifting. They've never troubled me too much until I started swinging heavier kettlebells. I've tried pumice stones and other solutions but they were either ineffective or very inefficient at doing the job. I made a second visit to my local chemist where I was finally shown 'Hero's Chiropody Sponge'. I've got nothing to lose, it was cheap and my calluses (4 major calluses per hand) were getting worse.

I've used this sponge twice now, the verdict: It just works

The box simply comes with the sponge itself as well as a small sheet of instructions. The instructions are simply:
  • Place sponge into warm water;
  • Soak feet in warm water for a few minutes;
  • Rub the sponge a few times against a piece of soap (any good quality soap will do). Then rub the sponge gently but firmly against the corn, callous or horny skin (it is essential that the soap be rubbed into the sponge before use).
I ignored the "soak feet in warm water for a few minutes" because I had a freshly peeled blister at the time, so no thank you. Regardless, the sponge still worked like a charm.

Further extract from the sheet:

After treating a corn, a tiny dimle may remain. Try to remove this painful dimple with the same rubbing action, using a corner of the sponge until it disappears. to facilitate keeping your feet smooth and blemish-free at all times, regular use of the complet Heros foot treatment is recommended.
Heros will also care for your hands by removing callouses and stains (tabacco, ink, paint, tar, etc) and may be used to remove rough skin from elbows or knees.

When used as directed, Heros will not effect soft skin. the Heros Chiropody Sponge will keep indefinitely under normal conditions. It will last for months, even with regular use. Do not use the Heros Chiropody Sponge on bunions or infected areas. Consult your doctor.
I was also very impressed at how it leaves the soft unaffected areas untouched. Initially, I was carefully grinding only targeting the callus but eventually just started grinding softly, yet very firmly, at the callus and the surrounding area to ensure I also get the edges of the callus to my surprise, the unaffected area were not damaged.

The sponge itself will break down during use, especially during first time usage. I do assure you however, that any other maintenance grinding after the first use will be minimal. In fact, I'd only used mine twice since purchase.

All in all, I highly recommend this as a primary way to break down calluses. For a few dollahs, you can't go wrong.

What I Like:
  • Cheap
  • Does what it say's it does, quickly too
  • User friendly instructions
  • Very easy to use
  • Effective
  • Goodbye thick calluses
What I Don't Like:
  • GTFO, nothing to see here...

I just realised I haven't really posted what my hands have been like since using this product. So here they are:
